Last night was the SARAs. Say what you will about SEEK, but they are NZs best job board, and know how to host an event. Credit and thanks to all those who were involved. Unfortunately, this also means that I’m writing a blog with a hangover once again. For that reason, I will keep this brief. Here’s my predictions, here’s the results, and he’s some commentary and suggestions for next time round. That’s all you’re getting.

Small Recruitment Agency of the Year

  • Elevate Resourcing
  • Konnect Koncepts
  • McLaren Recruitment
  • Recruitment Studio
  • Ryan Recruitment

My prediction: Elevate Resourcing

Winner: Recruitment Studio

Recruitment babes take the gong, beating the ultimate recruitment babe who I had picked. Hey, I’m cool with it either way.

Medium Recruitment Agency of the Year

  • Cultivate Recruitment
  • Digital Garage
  • Frog Recruitment
  • Lynx Recruitment
  • Talent Army

My prediction: Cultivate Recruitment

Winner: Talent Army

Once again, I’m off to a poor start. Some heartfelt words from Troy on stage who pretends not to care but sooooo cares.

Large Recruitment Agency of the Year

  • Adecco New Zealand
  • AWF Limited
  • Fluid Recruitment
  • Stellar Recruitment
  • Trade Assist

My prediction: Stellar Recruitment

Winner: Stellar Recruitment

Whew! Saving my blushes with a bit of a tap-in here. Nice to see Kym up there (plus a couple of our placements I should add.)

Innovation in Recruitment

  • AWF Limited
  • Cultivate Recruitment
  • Frog Recruitment
  • Konnect Koncepts
  • UP Recruitment

My prediction: AWF Limited

Winner: AWF Limited

Winner, winner, chicken dinner. And the night’s longest speech. Bear in mind that at this stage, the bar was closed (something future winners should think about before reciting The Count of Monte Cristo on stage).

Outstanding Progress in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

  • Adecco New Zealand
  • Cultivate Recruitment
  • Fred Recruitment
  • Lynx Recruitment

My prediction: Adecco New Zealand

Winner: Cultivate Recruitment

Nice work and a nice speech. Should have picked these guys in the first place. What was I thinking?

Excellence in Candidate Experience

  • Fred Recruitment
  • Frog Recruitment
  • HOME Recruitment
  • Lynx Recruitment
  • Trade Assist

My prediction: Frog Recruitment

Winner: Trade Assist

A bumbling speech from a poisonous dwarf. Next!

Recruitment Leader of the Year

  • Andrea Berrington, Konnect Koncepts
  • Brien Keegan, Sprout People
  • Jason Boot
  • Kim Lusby, Likemind
  • Troy Hammond, Talent Army

My prediction: Troy Hammond, Talent Army

Winner: Brien Keegan, Sprout People

How and why I bet against Brien I’ll never know. Brien always wins always. Them’s the rules. Had a lovely chat with his colleague Pip who apparently wastes her days reading these blogs.

Recruitment Consultant of the Year

  • Angela Browne, Adecco New Zealand
  • Christi-Ann de la Porte, Success Group Limited
  • Clara Jensen, Sprout People
  • Claudia Dawson-Jenner, Rice & Co
  • Lewis Howells, RWR Health Northern

My prediction: Claudia Dawson-Jenner

Winner: Lewis Howells, RWR Health Northern

If this were to be judged on crown reaction, my girl Claudia would have waltzed this. Alas, we have an even worse judging process than that in place here. Well done Lewis however. I hear he’s a good operator.

And that brings me on to my final point. Awards are nonsense. We all know this. However, they are fun, and a chance for all of us to connect and let off some steam. And SEEK always do a great job of hosting. I do feel however that the current format has gone slightly stale. Asking people to self-nominate, then redact all names, to then be judged by an internal recruiter, may not be the best format for all awards. How about next year we spice it up a bit SEEK? Maybe ask recruiters to vote for the best agency or recruiter excluding themselves? Or surveying their corporate clients to get some more meaningful awards? I know there are flaws in all methodologies, but let’s just give it a go.

Until next week my friends.
